IB Information
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program is a two-year curriculum and assessment program practiced and respected around the world. Founded in 1968, the IB works with 2,668 schools in 137 countries to develop and offer three challenging programs to over 725,000 students aged 3 to 19 years. The IB encourages students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens.
International Baccalaureate courses allow those students who value the challenges of academically rigorous studies an opportunity to add depth, scope, and global emphasis to their high school education. Those IB diploma and certificate students who have participated in this program often find the rigor and unique nature of their studies to be not only a broadening educational high school experience, but also to be exceptional preparation for their college or university studies.
What about IB in the United States? What are the Benefits of IB courses to my Student?
● 31 of Newsweek’s top 100 High Schools are IB schools.
● The Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) study found that:
"What is perhaps most notable about our findings is the degree to which IB standards were found to be related to the kinds of key cognitive strategies that our previous research points to as being so important for success in colleges and universities,” added David Conley, CEO of EPIC. “We have learned that it’s not enough for students to study content in isolation; they must use their content knowledge to solve problems, make conjectures and inferences, and think deeply about the big questions of the disciplines. The IB standards seem to be particularly well suited to achieving these aims.”(italics added for emphasis)
● has been identified by the U.S. Department of Education and the American Federation of Teachers as a “Program that Works”
