The symphony orchestra meets everyday during 5th hour, and is the highest orchestra here at LSN. We have been blessed to have great talent in every section, and with kids who sacrifice other classes, lunch periods, and passing periods to be a part of the orchestra. The symphony winds, brass, and percussion join the strings during their lunch period, sacrificing social and food time. (And thanks to them we are who we are!) The strings meet individually with Mr. Keeney for the remainder of 5th hour working on different pieces for concerts. So, at one time, the strings could be playing multiple selections, many for full orchestra, and then several for just strings. (Thanks to them for working hard to achieve great things on all selections!)
But our symphony isn't just about playing, it's about a family. A family who has grown together under the guidance of Mr. Keeney for 6 years (if you were here since middle school.) Because of that we like to have a lot of fun, enjoy playing kick ball at the end of the year, pulling pranks on Mr. Keeney, distracting him from teaching, bugging him in the music office after hours and leaning on each other for support mentally, emotionally, physically, and ultimately - musically.
WE ARE FAMILY!
From broken pinkies to broken strings. Car problems to warped bridges. Success to failure. Chocolate to just food in general. A tiny mouse with a tumor on his back to a string descending from Heaven to hold your back straight up. - We have the best director. One who helps us succeed musically, but is also looking out for us in life. One who steals our chocolate, and will help us with our car problems. One who knows the best way for an orchestra to succeed is through laughter, and he achieves success with all his funny stories and all his hilarious analogies. He's the best, and we all know it!
Joseph Keeney has been teaching music now for 17 years. He pushes his symphony to the limits, and strives for perfection always - perfection we've been blessed with reaching. For a full biography of Joseph Keeney, click here.
